Awoke
early for a change. But for some reason our breakfast of fruit and
chocolate croissants was delayed.
We drove to to the port in Viareggio to see a chap there about
a soft-top car – a Smart – to replace the Megane we
had hired from Hertz (we fancied something a bit more snazzy). He
did not have one available at that time but thought he might have
something at the end of the week. The weather was so wonderful,
we decided to go straight home, change into bathers and hit the
beach rather than our planned trip to Lucca. We spent the afternoon
reading on the beach and walking in the surf but were too wimpy
to go swimming. Tom had lemon and melon ice cream and Charlotte
had kiwi and pineapple.
We went home, showered then changed into posh clobber for dinner.
We had found one of the recommended restaurants down near the car
hire place in the port. Unfortunately, nothing opened until after
8pm – we were all dressed up with no place to go. We ended
up eating on the promenade looking vastly overdressed. We drove
home for a desert of banana and yogurt and went to bed for more
of that very enjoyable honeymooning activity.
