Honeymoon

Day 2

Monday 19 May 2003

Cloudy but Warm

clocktowerWedding cake for breakfast when we eventually awoke. I don't think we realised how exhausted we were.

The owner of the villa drove us into Viareggio, the nearest town – ostensibly to find the Tourist Information Bureau and to hire a car but we got distracted by the beautiful beach. We decided a short stroll would not disrupt our plans – it only being the early afternoon. We strolled along the beach, down to the port and along the pier. Then we walked back along the promenade and visited a Gelateria. Charlotte had limone and Tom had fruita di bosca. Tom was impressed by Charlotte's Italian ordering capability (remembered from a family holiday), the range of ice cream flavours and of course the yummy taste!

By the time we found Tourist Information, it was closed. About five minutes before shops all closed at 8pm, and with no way to get back to our Casa, we hired a Renault Megane from the Hertz shop on the promonade. It had the registration number Box Jnr, so it was always easy to find. The Hertz-lady recommended a place to eat on the promenade which looked tasty (the food, not the place looked tasty). Charlotte had a calzone (another throw-back to her earlier italian sojourn) and Tom had baked sea bass and vegetables – both were delicious. Tom followed his meal with a chocolate tart that the place called Tiramisu. It was wonderful to Tom and deadly to Charlotte.

Driving home was fun. We were amazed to make it back safely after only going wrong once. Feeling very pleased with our successful day we went to bed for more honeymoon activities.
