God
Scene: 29th May 1997; following a picnic in a graveyard, Tom & Charlotte attend Leicester Theatre to watch 'The Complete Word of God - Abridged', performed by The Reduced Shakespeare Company. During the performance, an actor asks if anyone has read the whole of the Bible. Charlotte puts her hand up and Tom panics.
Charlotte: I was curious
Tom: [said something unforgettably witty here...
but we forget what it was]
Charlotte: It had pretty pictures... It was
a children's illustrated version
Later in the car, after the performance (once Tom has recovered
from the shock):
Charlotte: Tell me about yourself [hoping Tom
will talk for a few minutes then ask about Charlotte]
Tom: [Talks about himself until they are one
minute away from home, then says...] Tell me about yourself
